Bouncer bashing victim dies in hospital
A 22-year-old man injured in a fight with a hotel bouncer in Brisbane's
south has died in hospital.
Police say Sese Titoa tried to enter the Meadowbrook Hotel about 10pm (AEST)
on Saturday, but was refused entry because he did not the have correct
identification.
When Titoa argued with the security guard, the bouncer punched him on the
left side of his head, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on
the ground. He was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he died
about 10am today.
A 44-year-old security guard has been charged with causing grievous bodily
harm, but police say the charge could now be upgraded to murder or manslaughter.
Tonight, the head of the company which owns the Meadowbrook Hotel offered
his condolences to Mr Titoa's family. Lasseters Hotels general manager,
Michael Lucas, described the incident as tragic and regretful, and said
the company would continue to co-operate with police.
"
We share the desire of Mr Titoa's family to understand how this incident
occurred and the community's desire to ensure it does not happen again," he
said.
